EVREN BAŞBUĞ
Evren Başbuğ was born in Ankara in 1981. He graduated from METU (Middle East Technical University) Faculty of Architecture in 2003. He earned a M.Arch degree from İstanbul Bilgi University, Architectural Design Graduate Program in 2009. Following his graduation, he worked at several nationally renowned offices. Throughout his professional career, he has won over 20 awards (including 4 first prizes) in national architectural competitions and various professional awards and commendations from national / international platforms / programmes. His projects have been nominated as category finalists at WAF - World Architecture Festival 6 times in total, in 2012, 2013, 2017 and 2018. His project 'Yeşilova Höyük Visitor Center' has been shortlisted for National Architecture Awards four times in 2012, 2017, 2018 and 2020 for the 'Future Projects' and 'Buildings' categories. In 2013 Evren Başbuğ was one of the finalists of the İstanbul Modern / Young Architects Program (YAP). In 2019, two projects designed by Evren Başbuğ have been nominated for the international Aga Khan Award for Architecture. Evren Başbuğ has been selected as one of the 14 young (under 40) architects for the Young Architects Selection & Exhibition (GEMSS) organized by The Circle.
In 2018 Evren Başbuğ was awarded the National Architecture Award in the 'Buildings / Public Space' category with Bostanlı Footbridge & Sunset Lounge.
Evren Başbuğ is a founding partner of 'kolokyum.com', an interactive professional platform which was online between 2008 and 2019. He taught as a part-time studio instructor at several universities and attended many academic evaluation juries. He was a jury member in various competitions for students and professionals. Evren Başbuğ was a jury member for Archiprix Turkey for two times in 2009 and 2019; and he has been entitled as the Coordinator of Archiprix Turkey since 2020.
Besides his ongoing professional career in İzmir and Ankara within his practice 'Studio Evren Başbuğ Architects Co. Ltd.', Evren Başbuğ is teaching as a part-time studio instructor at TED University Faculty of Architecture. He is also a member of the Architects’ Professional Committee in the İzmir Chamber of Commerce.
